Type 2 Diabetes and Heart Disease
Dr. Gerald Reaven and his associates are seeking volunteers for a study on diabetes and heart disease.  Volunteers need to be between the ages of 30-70, have a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes, and not taking insulin.  The study will take place at Stanford University Medical Center.  Participants will receive an evaluation of heart disease risk factors and medication to improve cholesterol levels or blood glucose control, and will receive dietary counseling from a research dietitian.  Interested persons should call (650) 723-7024

High Blood Pressure and Cardiac Risk Study
Healthy men and women with high blood pressure, between the ages of 25-75 who are interested in learning about their cardiac risk factors are sought by researchers studying the relationship between high blood pressure, insulin resistance, and heart disease.
Volunteers should be in good general health and of normal body weight.  Participants may have a family history of diabetes or heart disease, but should be free of these conditions themselves.  The study includes a medical examination, and an evaluation of cardiac risk factors including assessment of insulin resistance and a cholesterol profile.  The study is being conducted under the direction of Dr. Gerald Reaven, and his associates.  For more information, call (650) 723-7024

Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome, Medication, and Dietary intervention
Dr. Gerald Reaven and his associates are seeking volunteers for a study on insulin resistance and poly cystic ovarian syndrome.  Women must be healthy with a diagnosis of poly cystic ovarian syndrome who are interested in learning the effects of dietary or drug intervention.  This study will take place at Stanford University Medical Center.  Participants will receive a medical examination, an evaluation of cardiac risk factors, including assessment of insulin resistance.

Dietary Effects on Cholesterol and Triglycerides
Dr. Gerald Reaven and his associates are seeking volunteer for a study on cholesterol, triglycerides and heart disease.  Volunteers need to be between the ages of 30-70yrs.  Be non-diabetic and have elevated cholesterol and triglycerides levels.  The study will take place at Stanford University Medical Center over a 6-week period and will involve two different diets to observe the effects on cholesterol and triglyceride lowering.  Participants will receive a medical examination; evaluation of heart disease risk factors and will receive dietary counseling from a research dietitian.  Interested persons should call (650) 723-7024

Better Medication for Combined Dyslipidemia
Dr. Gerald Reaven and his associates are seeking volunteers for a study on combined dyslipidemia.  Volunteers need to be between the ages of 30-75, have a elevated cholesterol and triglyceride level, and non diabetic.  The study will take place at Stanford University Medical Center over a 3-month period.  Participants will receive a medical examinitaion, evaluation of heart disease risk factors and medication, and will receive dietary counseling from a research dietitian.  Interested persons should call (650) 723-7024

Type 2 Diabetes Risk and Prevention
Dr. Gerald Reaven and his associates are seeking volunteers for a study on reducing the risk for developing type 2 diabetes.  Volunteers need to be between the ages of 30-70, and have a family history of type 2 diabetes.  The study will take place at Stanford University Medical Center.  Participants will receive an evaluation of heart disease risk factors and medication to reduce the risk for developing type 2 diabetes, and will receive dietary counseling from a research dietitian.  Study participants will be followed weekly.  Interested persons should call (650) 723-7024
